GCA ex-secy, Clubs not out

Dr Salkar reinstates former secy Chetan Dessai; Permits all 107 clubs to participate in the forthcoming election

PORVORIM: The Goa Cricket Association (GCA) imbroglio took a new twist with association President Dr Shekhar Salkar reinstating former Secretary Chetan Dessai and also permitting all 107 clubs to participate in the forthcoming GCA election.
The reaction was prompted after former GCA President Vinod Phadke and former Secretary Chetan Dessai, along with representatives of 40 cricket clubs, whose proxy applications to participate in the GCA election to be held on June 28 were rejected by the GCA election committee, stormed the association office on Wednesday afternoon and ‘gheraoed’ Dr Salkar and secretary Sudin Kamat.
The opposition group asked Dr Salkar how he could eject Dessai from the GCA secretary post and appoint Kamat. They also demanded answers as to how GCA rejected the proxy applications of the 40 cricket clubs.
Dr Salkar relented after a long and heated debate. He then rolled back the previous decisions with immediate effect in a written communication.
“This letter is given by me on free will without having pressure or coercion of any sort and I have given it in sound state of mind,” stated the letter issued by Dr Salkar.
The GCA president had cancelled the right of 40 opposition clubs to vote for the top posts in the elections to be held on June 28. The opposition group had then charged him with forgery and rigging.
Later in the evening, Dessai along with Phadke went to Porvorim Police Station and filed a complaint against Dr Salkar stating that he has allowed Dr Raghvendra, who is not the member of the managing committee, to tamper with the minutes of the meetings of GCA and official documents.
They also alleged in their police complaint that Dr Raghvendra had hacked into the official email ID of the association in connivance with Dr Salkar.
