PANJIM: The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has requested the State government not to impose cess on pharmaceutical industries. There are over 25 drug manufacturing companies in Goa which are operational.
In letter to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, GCCI’s Manoj Caculo stressed that that during the earlier GST council meeting which was chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, one of proposal shared by Government of Sikkim was for nominal cess on pharmaceutical industry. It was also learnt that Goa government was contemplating on levying similar cess on GST for pharmaceutical sector.
The letter stated that during the pandemic pharmaceutical was probably the only industry which almost operated at 90 per cent plus utilisation, braved the adverse environment, chugging both lives and livelihood in spite of supply chain logistics issues not stopping. Pharmaceutical sector extended whole hearted support in CSR and supporting government on various counts.
