PANJIM: The Chairman of the Education Committee of Goa Chambers of Commerce and Industries (GCCI) Raghuveer Vernekar an educationist, in his letter to the Chief Minister and Education minister Pramod Sawant has given his and his team suggestion on how to go about academics in Goa at these pandemic times.
The letter said that the results of Class XII could be tabulated factoring in Class X score 30 per cent, Class XI score 20 per cent and internal assessment during XII 50 per cent. He added that Std X 30 per cent because it is a public examination score, while XI is taken seriously by many a student. However the weightage could be suitably modified as deemed rationally fit, and notified in advance.
He further went on to suggest that the score normalization along the lines suggested for SSC, may be compiled not directly by the schools but under the supervision of neutral personnel. The coefficient of correlation could be a useful statistical tool to arrive at the final score.
Regarding admissions to professional colleges the education committee of GCCI suggested that admission to professional courses should continue to be based on entrance examination tests only. The score at higher secondary level may be used just as a reference point to appear for such tests and the qualifying range may be lowered suitably to accommodate anxiety consequences as also to be fair and equitable. Score should have no weightage for admission at least this year.
The letter added that the entrance tests may be held online if the need arises; and in a staggered manner if physically necessary, and essentially in centralised places with necessary internet access, but not too far from the students’ residence; to avoid travel hazards.
The letter signed by Raghuveer Vernekar has several suggestions in all aspects related to education in detail which included the format for setting up question papers, tabulations, admissions etc.
