PANJIM: The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has sought revival of GST Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) and for convening the next GST-GRC meeting with stakeholders.
It a letter addressed to the Chief Commissioner, Central GST and Customs, Pune zone and Commissioner of Central GST Goa as well as Commissioner of State Tax, Goa, the GCCI has stated that the GST Council in its 38th meeting held on December 18, 2019 had decided that a structured grievance redressal mechanism should be established for the taxpayers under GST to tackle the GST related issues.
The GST Council had accordingly approved the constitution of ‘Grievance Redressal Committee’ at the State-level consisting of Central Tax Officers, State Tax Officers and representatives of the trade and industry as per the Trade Notice No. 01/GST/2020 dated January 15, 2020 . The GCCI had representation on the GRC in the State and had actively participated in all the meetings held and it helped to resolve various practical challenges faced by the taxpayers.
According to the GCCI, currently the stakeholders do not have any forum to voice the practical GST issues jointly with the CGST and SGST Offices. The GRC forum is a bridge between the stakeholders and the CGST and SGST offices, and the ever-changing requirements of the GST statute and the frequent updates to the GST portal makes it imperative that periodic meetings be held between the trade associations and the GST offices for the ease of compliance and quick resolution of grievances.
As considerable time has elapsed since the last meeting, the GCCI has requested that in the interest of the stakeholders that the GST-Grievance Redressal Committee be revived, and the next Committee meeting be held at the earliest. A copy of this letter is also marked to Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho, who is also State representative of GST Council.
