MAPUSA: The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), along with the Anjuna Panchayat has commenced demolition of illegal structures existing in no-development zones (NDZ) in the jurisdiction of Anjuna Village Panchayat.
Earlier on Wednesday, around four structures were demolished while on Thursday five structures were demolished. According to information available, around 38 structures have been identified for violating the Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) norms. The structures are being demolished by a demolition squad with the use of labourers and an excavator.
Before undertaking the drive, the violators were issued show-cause notices asking them to reply why their structures should not be demolished and parties had filed their replies and a joint inspection was carried out. The panchayat had accordingly issued a demolition order under Section 66/4 of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, 1994.
Anjuna Sarpanch Laxmikant Chimulkar said, “The drive is taken to demolish illegal structures, which are in violation of CRZ norms. We have demolished around 10 structures till date. The demolition will continue till the other remaining structures are razed.”
Meanwhile, some individuals have voluntarily removed their structures while some others managed to get a stay from court.
