VASCO: The Tourism Minister Manohar Azgaonkar has claimed that it is due to the objections raised by Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), the State tourism department was unable to take up several developmental projects proposed on the Goan beaches and inaugurate the much needed toilet and changing room facility at Bogmalo and other beaches.
“From Pernem to Cancona, we intend to provide world class facility on all beaches. We also started and provided certain important facilities like toilet, changing room and locker facilities for tourists. However, we are unable to move forward because of hindrance by CRZ. Though we have money but we are unable to provide facilities on beaches because everywhere CRZ raises its objections. Without CRZ permission we cannot move forward, similarly we have people going to NGT against our projects and hence we are unable to increase touristic amenities on beaches,” Azgaonkar said on the sidelines of a function in Vasco
Informing that the State has received Rs 200 crore from the Central government, he said, “With the help of MLA’s and coastal panchayat bodies, we have been trying to identify the requirements on the beaches so that the same can be provided as fast as possible; the only thing we require is support from CRZ authorities.”
