PANJIM: In the wake of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order with regards to finalisation of the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP), the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has declined to grant No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to four temporary floating jetties for ferrying cruises.
NGT in a countrywide order in November 2017 had imposed restrictions on State governments from granting new permissions in the coastal regulation zone (CRZ) areas until finalisation of CZMP by June 2018.
During a recent meeting, GCZMA, however, approved installation of temporary floating jetties at Palolem, Mobor beach, Benaulim and Arossim, but declined to grant NOCs for the project.
A private firm – Drishti Cruise and Ferries Pvt Ltd – had approached GCZMA with a proposal for installing a walkway and a temporary floating jetty at four coastal areas for ferry cruises.
“Authority after detailed discussion and perusing site inspections reports by the Expert Member decided to consider the said proposals, however, the NOC cannot be issued based on the judgment/order dated November 22, 2017 passed by the NGT,” the minutes of the meeting state.
