PANJIM: The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has granted its nod to the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) for construction of parking facilities in Calangute and Candolim coastal areas.
While granting permission, GCZMA has stressed upon the fact that the presently available parking space becomes insufficient for the buses and other four wheelers which gather in large numbers at Candolim and Calangute beach.
“The proposed public utility for parking by GTDC is highly essential and important for keeping the vehicles in order by tourists and public, otherwise it will create a chaos,” the authority observed.
In Calangute, the proposed parking is abutting the main road to the beach, and it is partly falling within 200m and partly within 200-500m from the High Tide Line (HTL). In Candolim, the proposed site falls within 200m of HTL.
The authority has directed GTDC to make use of paver tiles instead of concrete while developing the site for parking purpose.
GCZMA noted that the project is included in the Beach Carrying Capacity Report for both the coastal areas under the proposed infrastructure development along the Coastline in Goa wherein various infrastructure projects are enlisted subject to permissions from the respective land owners.
“The project being a public utility project and is essential for management / control of traffic in a renowned tourist destination as such the Authority decided to approve the project,” the minutes of the meeting reads.
In Calangute the parking facility is proposed in the Survey No 200/1 and for Candolim it is in plot area 146/1, 3B.
