GCZMA orders complete removal of resort at Calangute

PANJIM: The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has ordered complete demolition of the resort put up by Lloyd St Jude Joachim Fernandes, and named “Amari by the Sea” by the firm to whom he had leased the land at Calangute.

The GCZMA has also ordered calculation of environmental costs for the CRZ violations committed by the promoters, and restoration of the land to its original status. 

The complaints against the development — all of which was carried out within the 200 metres No Development Zone (NDZ) – were filed by the Goa Foundation and the Calangute Constituency Forum. The instant order was passed by the GCZMA after the High Court disposed of a PIL filed by the Goa Foundation (No. 7/2023).

The GCZMA has directed Lloyd St Jude Joachim Fernandes of Tivai Vaddo, Calangute to demolish all the illegalities constructed i.e. cottages, electrical panel, restaurant, shack, reception block security cabin, swimming pool, landscaping, water Fountain, situated in the property bearing Survey No. 158/1 of Calangute Village. It has ordered to revoke the permissions granted and bio-fencing permission and to issue a show cause notice for all the compensation on environmental damages, as decided in the GCZMA meeting held on December 22, 2023. 

The GCZMA has further directed Lloyd St Jude Joachim Fernandes to restore the land to its original condition, within 30 days from the date of the recent of the order.
