MARGAO: The Goa Coastal Zone Management (GCZMA) has issued directions for the removal or demolition of all the 29 gaddas (carts) operating without any approval, within the property of the Tourism Department in the CRZ area in Colva village, based on the Tourism Department’s submissions.

This matter was discussed during the GCZMA’s 325th meeting that was chaired by the Secretary, Environment.

At the meeting, it was observed that although the shopping complex was acquired in the year 1980 by the Tourism Department and that another five units, each comprising six stalls, totalling 30 numbers, were built in the year 1988, the lessees had carried out illegal extensions to the original stalls.

The GCZMA thus decided to issue directions to the Tourism Department under Section 5 of the Environment Protection Act, for the demolition of all the illegal extensions carried out in the complex pertaining to the Tourism Department, in six survey numbers of Colva village.

The GCZMA has also decided to direct removal/demolition of all 29 gaddas/ carts operating in Survey no 37/11 of Colva village within the Tourism Department’s property in the CRZ area. After perusing the written arguments/submissions filed by the parties, the GCZMA went on to determine whether the complex pertaining to the Tourism Department in the survey numbers of Colva village existed prior to the year 1991.

The complainant, Colva Civic and Consumer Forum (CCCF) had also confirmed that extensions of the stalls have been carried out.  The Tourism department also admitted that the 29 four-wheeler carts of temporary/permanent nature were operating on its property in Colva within the CRZ area, without their approval.
