GCZMA orders demolition of illegal toilet in Coastal Regulation Zone area of Velim

MARGAO: The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has ordered the demolition of an illegally constructed toilet in the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) area of Velim, Salcete.

The case pertains to a complaint filed against the said construction in the village, which falls within the CRZ area.

Upon receiving the complaint, GCZMA forwarded it to the District Level Committee (DLC) of the Office of the District Collector (South Goa) for an inquiry.

The DLC conducted an investigation and found that the party in question had illegally erected a masonry structure toilet with an area of 2.7 square meters and a height of 1.8 metres, located approximately 100 metres from the High Tide Line (HTL).

Based on the DLC’s report, the GCZMA issued a show-cause notice to the party, asking for a reply to be filed and to appear for a personal hearing. During that hearing, GCZMA perused the reply and document it received from the party.

After considering the same and the party’s admission that the toilet was built without permission, the GCZMA decided to pass orders for the demolition of the illegal toilet structure.

However, the Authority has granted liberty to the party to approach the competent authorities to seek permission to construct a toilet as per the prevalent laws in force.
