Panjim: Taking into consideration the beach carrying capacity, Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has permitted the erection of nearly 200 temporary seasonal structures in private properties for the current tourism season.
At its meeting held in the second week of December, GCZMA permitted 181 huts and 18 shacks in private properties.
The shacks/huts have been permitted at Anjuna, Calangute, Mandrem, Morjim, Moira in North Goa and Cavelossim, Bogmalo, Palolem, Sernabatim and Varca in South Goa.
Permissions have been granted considering the beach carrying capacity report of the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM). NCSCM recommended that only 33 % of the beach area can be made available for erection of shacks after leaving out ecologically-sensitive areas, river mouths, creeks, fishing space and buffer area at entry points.
It has identified 39.26 kms as ecologically sensitive, to be marked as a ‘No Go’ zone.
