MAPUSA: The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority on Tuesday razed two houses and some huts at Vaddem, Candolim, after National Green Tribunal ordered to restore the land to its original condition by removing the illegal structures in violation of the Coastal Regulation Zone.
According to the sources, a Delhi-based hospitality company, who had bought the beach property 15 years ago from the land owner had moved to court since the tenants who were dwelling for the last 40 years were not ready to vacate the land. The matter reached to the NGT, who then passed the order to remove all the structures and restore the land to its original condition which includes structures in Survey No 129/1,129/5,129/6 and 129/9 in which demolition was carried out using earthmoving machinery.
The demolition was carried out in the presence of Joint Mamlatdar Sandeep Gawade, Deputy Superintendent of Police Santosh Desai and police force from Calangute, Saligao and Porvorim Police Stations to avoid any law and order situation.
