PANJIM: After National Coastal Zone Management Authority (NCZMA) turned down Goa’s request for non-depiction of port limit on Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP), the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has decided to seek State government’s intervention to take up the matter before the MoEF&CC’s coastal body seeking relaxation in lines with States like Maharashtra, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
The meeting of 44th NCZMA was held through VC under the chairperson of secretary, MoEF & CC, New Delhi, last month. The chairman of GCZMA made a power point presentation on
Goa CZMP 2011 to the committee members as requested by NCZMA for favorable consideration by taking into account that Goa is a peculiar State and tourist destination.
“The secretary MOEF &CC stated that a request for non depiction of port limit on CZMP cannot be agreed upon, however the major and minor ports can be depicted in different colour on the CZMP for identification,” the minutes of the GCZMA meeting, held post NCZMA meeting, reads.
As such, the GCZMA in its meeting held on February 22, decided that government of Goa shall take up the matter with NCZMA of MoEF&CC as port limits not depicted for the States of Maharashtra, Kerala and Tamil Nadu on CZMP 2011.
The GCZMA had earlier requested the NCZMA to remove the depiction of port limit on the ground that there are two major and five minor notified ports in Goa and both major and minor ports are depicted in a single colour creating doubt in the mind of the general public, that all areas depicted within the port limit is that of the major port.
Also, the area notified as major and minor port is extensive in comparison to the total area of the State. Further, the depiction of port limits is not statutory requirement as per CRZ Notification 2011.
