GE holds awareness campaign in Betul

BETUL: Goencho Ekvott (GE) organized an awareness campaign at Betul with the active participation of the residents of Betul, Velim, Canaguinim, Naqueri and other nearby areas on Saturday, October 10. 

GE Convener Creson Antao urged the residents to liberate’ Goa from the clutches of the coal mafia, who have in mind to destroy the picturesque villages of Betul and other areas for their coal handling operations.

Captain Viriato Fernandes, spoke about the quantum of coal that would pass through Goa and through the six nationalized Rivers; one of them being River Sal, which is to be destroyed due to dredging of the river, which will in turn displace Betul’s entire fishing community.

He explained about the port planned at Betul to carry Coal and other hazardous cargo.

GE Joint Secretary Olencio Simoes informed the locals about the Sagarmala project and the ill-effects of the coal transportation with particular reference to the satellite port proposed at Betul as part of the Sagarmala project.
