GEC students develop solar powered e-scooter

PANJIM: The mechanical engineering students of Goa Engineering College (GEC), Farmagudi have developed an innovative and environment-friendly pilot project, ‘Solar Aided Electric Two-Wheeler’.

Four students namely Kamlesh Chaudhary, Pranav Ganipisetty, Saharsh Sail and Vedanth Pagi have developed Solar Aided Electric Two-Wheeler under the mentorship of Professor Dr Akshay Nigalye and the valuable guidance of Dr Anant J Naik, Professor in Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, GEC, Farmagudi.

With the primary objective to reduce carbon footprint and promote environment sustainability, this engineering ingenuity showcases the immense potential of young minds in addressing environmental challenges. By harnessing solar energy, the scooter eliminates the need for conventional grid charging, thus significantly reducing the strain on conventional power sources. Additionally, the Solar Aided Electric Two-Wheeler is equipped with a custom-made 10Ah battery that ensures optimal performance and efficiency, providing a maximum speed of 30 kmph and a range of 30 km, states a press release.

The Solar Aided Electric Two-Wheeler stands as a beacon of hope and innovation. The project offers a glimpse into the potential of renewable energy integration in our daily lives and its role in shaping a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable world. It presents a cost-effective solution for transportation by taking advantage of the free and abundant resource that is solar energy.
