GEL plans home service for bedridden patients

Mobile vans will go to people’s homes for enrollment of DDSSY scheme; 2.60lakh forms distributed, 5000 health insurance cards issued

PANJIM: With a target to
cover the entire State population under the Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana
(DDSSY) by September end, Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) has decided to reach
out to households that have bedridden patients with the Aadhar card mobile
unit, to ensure their enrollment under the health insurance scheme.

GEL, the nodal agency for
enrolling beneficiaries, has till date distributed 2,60,000 DDSSY forms and
issued 5000 health insurance cards.

Addressing media persons on
Saturday, GEL chairman Dattaprasad Naik said that during the camps, officials came
across families with bedridden patients, who have not applied for the Aadhar
cards, which is an important document for availing DDSSY benefits.

“Hence we approached the State
government with a proposal wherein we would reach out to these families through
our Aadhar card mobile units and get them enrolled under the scheme. These are
the people who are in actual need of such cashless medical facilities,” Naik
said adding that from coming week, the mobile vans will go to these households.

Naik said that as on date
around 2, 60,000 forms have been distributed, of which 1,02,004 families have
registered themselves. “By September end, we aim to cover the entire 4.5 lakh
families,” he said urging citizens to get registered as soon as possible in
order to avail the benefits of the scheme.

The maximum number of
registrations has come from Bardez taluka, followed by Salcette, Bicholim,
Ponda, Quepem, Pernem, Tiswadi, Mormugao and Canacona. The scheme has received a
poor response in Sattari, where only 3757 families have registered even as
10,000 odd forms have been distributed.
