PANJIM: Generation Next for Goa (GenX) has urged Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to undertake asset verification of all officials, including the secretary and under secretary, attached to the Home Department, alleging their connivance with casino operators.
The demand comes following a police complaint filed by GenX before Vasco police station against Bogmalo Beach Resort, for illegal gambling activities. The casino license awarded to Trade Wings Hotel Ltd, expired on August 16 and the Hotel’s Five Start Classification also stands lapsed since May this year.
Addressing the media, Durgadas Kamat of GenX, said that senior officials of the Home department are in connivance with offshore and onshore casino operators and demanded that their assets be verified. “Despite the Chief Minister rejecting the renewal license of the casino of the resort, the Home department officials allowed them to continue illegal gambling activities,” he alleged.
Kamat said that only a five star certified resort can be allowed to run casinos.
In their police complaint, GenX pointed out that gambling activities carried out at the resort are illegal and violate Section 3 and 4 of Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act 1976.
In the complaint, GenX secretary Adv Yemane D’Souza has asked for swift action against those running the gambling operations.
