…gets Rs 41.99L under ST scheme to carry out developmental works

MARGAO: Under the Scheduled Tribes Development Scheme, the Directorate of Municipal Administration has sanctioned nearly Rs 41.99 lakh for the Margao Municipal Council in order to carry out different developmental works in the wards dominated by the Scheduled Tribes community. 

However, what shocking is that the DMA has sanctioned the grants after nearly two years from the date of the proposal.  

As informed by MMC Chairperson Lyndon Pereira, seven developmental works will be carried out under the said scheme in wards one, two, three, and nine within the jurisdiction of the civic body. 

Thanking the DMA for the approval, Lyndon said that this will surely give a boost to the MMC with regard to developmental works. 

As per the DMA’s order and under the said scheme, works such as providing and fixing paver and kerbs stone along the roadside near Radhakrishna Hotel at Madel in ward number one will be done, for which Rs 9.89 lakh of funds have been approved. Besides, developmental works of the estimated worth of Rs 12.15 lakh will be carried out in the same ward, which includes reconstruction of existing drain and providing slabs to cover the drains. 

The DMA has also approved Rs. 9.20 lakh for the developmental works in ward number three, besides the estimated cost of Rs 4.36 lakh has been granted in the same ward for the construction of the drain. 

In ward number nine, funds have been approved for two different works, which is estimated at Rs 8 lakh. Besides, for the developmental works of construction of drains and footpaths at Borda in the same ward, the DMA has approved 3.52 lakh. 

However, the DMA has also mentioned that these funds were approved upon the proposal received from the Chief Officer, MMC on February 26, 2019. 

The above grants should be utilised within a period of one year from the date of sanction.

Meanwhile, two proposals for five works estimated at Rs 80.25 lakh under the 14th Finance Commission grants has been sanctioned to MMC by the DMA. The newly-elected Chairperson Lyndon has managed to get this approval within 15 days in chair, as he informed about the DMA’s approval at the meeting of council on Thursday. 

Speaking to the media persons, the Chairperson said that the proposal has been sent to DMA with regard to five different works, which include carrying out of pre-monsoon works. 

“Rs 40.60 lakh has been approved by the DMA under the 14th Finance Commission grants for the improvement of the existing access road at Sonsoddo to a treatment plant, which is in very bad shape,” he informed. 

He said that Rs 7.36 lakh has been granted for engaging open trucks/trippers with workers for removal of fallen/cut trees, mud and sludge in the jurisdiction of 25 wards of MMC. Besides, the repair of the existing garage at Old Market will be carried out at the estimated cost of Rs 7.28 lakh. 

The DMA has also approved Rs 25 lakh for the two different works which include the purchase of forklift at the cost of 10 lakh and supply of packing strips of 12m for bailing of plastic waste at an estimated cost of Rs 14.97 lakh.
