PANJIM: Goa Forward Party on Monday extended its support for the
liquor selling outlets located within 500 metres of State and National Highways
are likely to lose their business after recent Supreme Court order directing
not to renew their licence from April 1.
“Goa Forward Party stands firmly with the Goan Businessmen
who have been adversely affected by the recent Judgement of the Supreme Court
of India with regards to ban on existing and established Bars and Liquor shops
within the 500 meters of National and State Highways,” party spokesman Durgadas
Kamat said while addressing media persons.
The GFP demands that the government of Goa should take all
possible measures to protect the genuine interests of Goan businessmen and
dependents.
“The GFP also calls for an immediate halt to the tearing
hurry shown by the bureaucracy for implementation of the order. Instead, the
GFP expects the government and the bureaucracy to gear up to apprise the
Supreme Court of the imminent and irreparable damage to the Goan economy and
the business community on account of such instructions,” Kamat added.
The party has demanded that the bureaucrats on the job to
protect the existing businessmen and traders of Goa, rather than cancelling and
not extending their licences and permits.
Kamat said that Goa Forward Party is shocked to note that
the government and the administration is focused to destroy the business, trade
and livelihood of Goans, when what is needed is to use all energies to build up
a strong case to protect the trading community of Goa.
