GFDO steps up attack on government

Accuses it of going ahead with the Mopa airport at the cost of the people

MARGAO: Goans for Dabolim Only has stepped up its attack on the government and accused it of going ahead with the Mopa airport at the cost of the people.
GFDO claims that presently the amount of loans per head has reached Rs 93,000 and by going ahead with the Mopa airport it will increase further.
“If the Environment Clearance is granted to Mopa airport then we are definitely going for a legal battle,” said Edwin Pinto of GFDO.
“The ghost airports report has clearly shown how second airports have been shut down in India and neighbouring countries. Developing other support facilities will cost the State dear and will send us into a debt trap,” said Siddharth Karapurkar.
“Our Chief Minister wants the airport to favour some and please the people and politicians who have bought land around the site. When the Prime Minister has already said that PPP models are not good, what is the government of Goa thinking?” asked Fr Eremito Rebello.
The report has highlighted the Jaisalmer Airport and the Matsala Airport which are on a verge of closing down due to low traffic and use.
GFDO claims they are presently preparing a comprehensive report on the details of the environment and economic impact of Mopa and are readying for a judicial battle.
