GFG backs proposal for mining fund

MARGAO: Goans for Goa (GFG) has said that it fully supports the proposal of the Goemcho Permanant Matti fund.

Proposed by Claude Alvares and Rahul Basu, wherein each family stands to get a minimum of Rs 50000, per annum, if the mining profits remain with the government of Goa.
GFG said it lauds the efforts of Claude Alvares and Rahul Basu in coming out with a workable plan that is fully backed with figures and facts, and as such must be supported by each and every Goan.
GFG reiterates that the actual owners of the ore, are the people of Goa, and as such the State of Goa, should manage the ore on behalf of the people of the State so that all the revenue from the permananet matti fund should go to all the citizens of Goa.
GFG said that it fully agrees with the idea that the people of Goa must kick start a peoples movement in each and every village of Goa, so that this plan is properly understood and explained to the people of Goa.
Since the government has already given 89 mining leases to the “people who have been plundering our wealth for the last many years,” it was high time that people woke up and stopped the mining profits from going into the hands of the same plunderers, the GFG said.
