MARGAO: Goans for Goa (GFG) has condemned the move of the BJP government, to draft rules under the garb of the Goa censor and controlling of places of public amusement 2015, which seeks to set up a censor board, which will review, monitor, tiatr before they are staged, as an outright slap on democracy and on the tiatr fraternity, and is aimed at gagging the voice of the tiatrists. Condemning the move, GFG president Kennedy Afonso said the government decision lacks transparency, adding that the current draft rules are made without taking the views of the tiatr fraternity. “Tiatr has been around for the last 125 years, and has evolved over the years. The funny satire and political songs are very a much a part of tiatrs for years and serve as an eye opener to erring politicians”, he added. He said there is no need for a censor board, as many directors themselves do not allow songs which defame anyone in their tiatrs.
