PANJIM: Goa Forward Party (GFP) legislators on Thursday called on Governor Satya Pal Malik seeking his intervention in resolving the ongoing Mhadei river water diversion issue.
GFP delegation led by its President Vijai Sardesai and MLAs Vinod Palyekar, Jayesh Salgaonkar and Vice President Durgadas Kamat met the Governor to ensure that Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEF&CC) withdraws the consent letter granted to the Kalsa-Banduri project of Karnataka.
“We have told the Governor that we have doubts over the government’s intentions over the Mhadei issue and requested for his intervention,” Sardesai told media persons after the meeting.
The former deputy Chief Minister added that he is looking forward for a positive step given that the Governor is a mediator between the State and Central government.
The GFP leader said that the Governor has appreciated his party’s concern over the issue and assured to intervene in the matter. “Governor has assured us to look into the matter,” said Sardesai, while adding that “the Governor appreciated the fact that we moved the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for justice”.
GFP leaders have also sought the Governor’s intervention claiming that the State’s financial situation is deteriorating. “We have explained to the Governor, the issues regarding the financial mismanagement by the State government. This mismanagement is happening currently, when Goa is facing precarious financial condition,” Sardesai said.
He added that “financial mismanagement is happening in the State on a big scale.”
The GFP Chief added that during their meeting they informed the Governor that “the financial mismanagement is causing irreparable damage to the State treasury.”
“The CM’s focus is elsewhere, he is not at all thinking about Goa’s interest,” he said.
“Every minister behaves like the CM of his own portfolio,” he alleged while adding that the CM has lost hold over affairs of the State.
Pointing out that all the ministers were addressing press conference post the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Sardesai said that this has happened for the first time in the history of Goa.
