GFP chief slams govt for failure in governance

Says CM’s two years in office have been a golden era for drug peddlers, ganja cultivators, murderers and anti-social elements

PANJIM: Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai on Friday slammed the Pramod Sawant-led government for its abysmal failure in governance and for his mischievous attempts to capture power by cheating.

While speaking to the reporters during his door to door visits in Ward No 8 of Margao Municipal Council, Vijai said that the BJP is not anymore a party with a difference but a different party. In just two years of governance, Sawant has managed to disfigure and dismember his party so much that it’s unrecognisable to anyone who knew BJP as the former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar’s party.

He alleged that the Sawant’s two years in office have been a golden era for drug peddlers, ganja cultivators, murderers and anti-social elements. There has been a constant flow of such people from Uttar Pradesh and other States eyeing better prospects, thanks to Sawant’s impotent government. The economy is in a shambles; core sectors like tourism is at its nadir.

Apart from being a disgrace to the civilised and progressive people of Goa and India by blatant violations of the Constitution and democratic processes, Vijai further alleged that he has hardly anything to sing about in his tenure as the Chief Minister, apart from scoring brownie points with his Delhi bosses and Gurgaon lobbies by doing their bidding, and selling Goa to their cronies piece by piece.

“Any Goemkar will tell you that, without exception, all the decisions this Sawant government has taken in the last two years have affected them adversely; right from the brutal COVID-19 lockdown to the IIT project fiasco to Mollem. His tenure will be remembered for the scams that the BJP got involved in under his watch, which we exposed, a]nd the reckless attempts to destroy Goa’s heritage, its environment and its natural wealth. And lying shamelessly and consistently to cover his misdeeds,” claimed Vijai.

He pointed out that Sawant’s two years in office will be remembered for things no other chief minister had dared to do. Like his police stamping on protesting elderly women in Shel-Melauli, and arresting protesting youth who had a difference of opinion with him. His reluctance and inability to stand up for Goa and fight for its rights, like in Mhadei, exposed not only his characteristic meekness but also the fact that when it comes to taking on Delhi or Karnataka, he would choose to rather surrender Goemkars’ interests and dignity to curry favour with his leadership to keep his job.

Vijai said that Goa has suffered by this government’s incompetence, lack of vision and its anti-Goan stance. It’s ironical that he’s celebrating his two years in office immediately after being certified as a cheat, with the Supreme Court slapping him and his government for their moves against the Constitution and democracy.
