MARGAO: The Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai has alleged that the government through the urgent Ordinance of amending the Municipal Law is trying to tighten the noose of Goan traders and get them to their feet for the benefit in municipal elections.
Vijai has vowed to raise the issue in the Assembly.
3The New Market Traders from Margao, led by Vinod Shirodkar, on Friday, met Vijai and handed over a request to support them in their fight against the Ordinance.
Vijai said, “Very rarely Ordinances are promulgated just one month before the Assembly session. This means someone is on fire and the government to promulgate an Ordinance which will only trouble the Goan traders and shop owners and give an upper hand to non-Goan traders in capturing the Goan markets.”
“This is the conspiracy of government to dislodge the Goan traders and shop owners and fill in non-Goan traders,” alleged Vijai.
“I will oppose this Ordinance in the Assembly but what will happen with my opposition given the numbers we have in Assembly is a question. However, this has to be opposed by the Goans and those who are opposed to this ‘Sawantwadi’ government,” said Vijai.
“I ask the Chief Minister, did you discuss with the Home Minister about the Margao Municipal Council election to hatch a conspiracy to tighten the noose of the people to get them to your feet? You don’t win the MMC elections by this means, work needs to be done. All the persons should come together to oppose this ordinance,” urged the GFP President.
“Local Goans should have protection in Goan markets and businesses; the subletting and other issues. In fact, each and every section of the society is being betrayed by this government,” said Vijai.
