GFP chief urges govt to put ‘screening’ protocol in place

PANJIM: As corona virus spreads its wings in India, former deputy chief minister Vijai Sardesai has urged the State government to put in place a protocol for screening of international and domestic travelers, particularly casino visitors.

Addressing media persons on Thursday, Sardesai said that there are no adequate measures in place at the Dabolim International Airport to screen the passengers arriving from international as well as domestic destinations. “It’s high time that government sets up protocol to screen these passengers,” he said.

“Not just at the airport, but passenger screening has to be done at railway stations and bus stops. Visitors coming via a road should be screened at the check post,” he said.

Sardesai further questioned as to what steps have been taken to screen the visitors entering casinos. “Are the tourists visiting casinos and hotels being screened? There is a fear that our locals may get infected to the virus, if there is any failure to screen the suspect,” he said.

He added that the govt cannot be ignorant or insensitive towards the issue and needs to adopt all the required measures. “We need to be responsible and serious,” Sardesai said.
