MARGAO: Claiming that the health workers were was insensitive in dealing with a family of a deceased person, Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai has criticised the callousness of the medical staff involved in the incident.
The Fatorda MLA alleged that the hospital asked
a relative of the deceased person to take the body away at the middle of the night.
In this regard, Vijai demanded the commissioning of the New South Goa District Hospital Morgue within 24 hours.
He warned that if the government doesn’t get the 72 slots at the morgue operational, then he will take matters in his own hands.
“This is a failure of the Health system and the Chief Minister and the Home Minister are in the know about this problem. “Why is the government morgue not being made operational? The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) has already handed over the same to the Director of Health Services (DHS),” he added.
Elaborating about his earlier allegations, Vijai claimed that the relative of his voter from Agalli, Fatorda who died on Wednesday night, was told that they would wrap the body and give it to him as they have no space in the Morgue at Monte hill. Vijai further expressed his displeasure that this happened around 3.30 am.
“There needs to be action taken against the persons who have been insensitive to the Goans who are in trouble” he demanded,
“The morgue at the New District Hospital needs to be made operationalised immediately. One third of the morgue at the hospital should be reserved for COVID. Only then the surge of COVID-19 cases and the rising deaths can be handled well,” Vijai added.
