MARGAO: With an eye on winning Cuncolim seat by a margin of six to seven thousand votes, Goa Forward Party has formed its block committee for the constituency.
The newly formed committee was launched on Friday at a function attended by party Vice-President Durgadas Kamat, Yuri Alemao, Joaquim Alemao, newly appointed block President Gabriel Fernandes (former Paroda sarpanch) and others.
On the occasion, Kamat said that the GFP has put in a lot of work in Cuncolim and Yuri Alemao too has been a part of the effort.
“There is a need for an organisation to reach the work of party to the booth level and from booth level to the people,” he said.
“The 27,000 people of Cuncolim will never be discriminated on party lines. We will work for all,” Kamat said and asserted that GFP would win the Cuncolim Constituency by not less than 6,000 to 7,000 votes margin.
“We are the only regional party existing and growing fast. Goa needs a strong regional party which will work beyond 50-60 years or more and I am sure Goa Forward Party will,” he said.
Yuri Alemao said, “I congratulate Gabriel and Goa Forward block. Our party president had assured all the assistance to us to fulfill all that lacked in Cuncolim.”
“One of the main issues of Cuncolim was the power problem. The former power minister Pandurang Madkaikar had informed us that not even a single proposal for improvement of power supply had come to his office from the Cuncolim representative. We have made sure that we take it up and now there are fewer fluctuations,” Yuri said.
He claimed that there is a huge disconnect between the elected representative of Cuncolim and the people.
The Cuncolim block has eight vice-presidents, one general secretary, a joint secretary, a treasurer and 36 executive members.
