GFP questions govt’s move to relax Konkani for veterinary officer post

PANJIM: The Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Tuesday raised question over government’s intention to relax the knowledge of Konkani for the post of veterinary officer in the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services. 

Addressing the media persons, GFP’s Employees Forward Convenor John Nazareth said that the Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) has issued advertisement for the post of veterinary officer, lecturer in surgery and lecturer in orthopedic surgery in the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services. 

“However, the knowledge of Konkani is relaxed for the post of veterinary officer, stating in case of non-availability of a suitable candidate with Konkani,” Nazareth said. 

The GFP leader questioned whether the move is a gateway opened for people of Sawantwadi and other parts of Maharashtra to seek government jobs in the State. 

He also sought to know whether there are no eligible Goans, with knowledge of Konkani, who can apply and qualify for the post. 

Nazareth said that several thousand Goans gave fight to get Statehood to Goa and to give recognition to Konkani as official language. 

“The BJP-led government is ought to compromise the sacrifice of those Goans. There are some who every martyred to get Statehood to Goa,” he said. 

The former union leader said that the party will seek legal opinion to challenge the State government’s move. 

He urged the people to wake up and give a fight against such anti-Goan decisions of the government.
