MARGAO: Goa Forward Party Chief Vijai Sardesai on Friday said that the party will dedicate the year 2021 to promote, support and defend the ambitions of Goa’s youth.
While speaking to the reporters on the sidelines of the procession of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, traditionally held at Madel on the New Year’s eve, Sardesai said that 2020 has been a year where the Goans demonstrated resilience in the face of global challenges and local adversities.
“It has been a year through which we fought to defend our culture, our environment and our future, but as we continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic even in the New Year, I would like to remember all our heroic frontline workers who fight daily to curb the spread of new infection, and also pay tribute to the 737 loved ones we lost due to this deadly disease” said Sardesai.
The GFP chief touched upon the ongoing issues faced by the society and community from COVID-19, and experienced trouble over issues such as River Mhadei, Mollem, offline exams, Old Goa encroachment, food shortage, inconsiderate spending of 100 crores for Liberation Day and the intention to legalise cultivation of cannabis.
He mentioned that “2020 was a year of bad luck, but also a year of bad leadership from the current government” and that the people must say no more to bad governance and anti-Goan policies in 2021.
The GFP chief announced that the Goa Forward Party would dedicate its actions and responsibilities in 2021 to the youth of Goa.
Sardesai stated that “2021 will be known as the ‘Year of Goan Youth’, a year aimed at promoting, supporting, and defending our future generation to achieve and accomplish their desires, and ambitions to Save Goa Now.”
Urging the Goans to look ahead with hope, Sardesai said that “Our youth were amongst Goa’s bravest in 2020 – from doctors, nurses, teachers, entrepreneurs, students and children, the youth demonstrated hope that all Goans should collectively embrace.”
He noted that the Goan youth have the aspirations to achieve greatness, and to make Goa a global hub of sustainability and innovation yet maintain its true culture and heritage and hope to make Goa a State self-sufficient by knowledge and merit.
The Goa Forward chief concluded that the ‘Year of Goan Youth 2021’ will involve and bring together all Goans to make this 2021 a year of hope and unity to Save Goa Now as one Team Goa.
He said that “we together are one Team Goa that can make 2021 a year of victory, through hope to save our beloved Goa”.
