Goa Government Employees’ Association has called off its proposed indefinite pen-down tool-down strike scheduled to commence from Wednesday on learning that the Government will not be in a position to take a decision on its demands in view of the Election Code of Conduct in force from Tuesday.
President GGEA M L Shetkar said an emergency meeting of the working committee today evening resolved unanimously not to strike in view of the notification of the Election Commission of India declaring Assembly by-elections to Valpoi constituency.
The GGEA has claimed Secretary General Administration Kumar Swamy and Law Secretary Pramod Kamat, on directives from the CM, assured its delegation the Government was positive on the demands. The two told the delegation the Government will not be in a position to spell out any policy decision during the Code of Conduct, it stated.
It further said the CM in a telephonic discussion expressed his desire to settle the demands of GGEA as early as possible. The Association put forward a suggestion a one-man commission headed by Pramod Kamat to look into the upgradation of pay scales of left-out categories. The CM has agreed to this suggestion, GGEA said.
