PANJIM: The Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) has requested Pramod Sawant-led government to direct municipalities and panchayats to support the house-to-house survey staff doing the exercise, to stay protected from any incident.

Association president Prashant Devidas has extended complete support to the government’s initiative for house-to-house health community survey from April 13-16.

“The Decision taken by Goa Government Regarding Community Survey of all Houses of Goa State is appreciable step at this critical situation. Goa Government is doing appreciable work and all government employees should support for the Government. This is prime necessity and duty to fight against the coronavirus and win against the virus,” read a press statement by Devidas.

On behalf of the GGEA, he appealed to all government employees, who will be assigned the task, to co-operate with the government without imposing any conditions.

“Since we are going in critical stage of coronavirus, it is our prime duty to support the government fully and do the work punctually,” he said while urging the government to instruct sarpanchas and local panchas as well as municipality chairmen and councillors to support the field staff during the exercise in terms of protection and help.

“Also, for the safety of the government employees, the government should provide necessary safety measures for the staff,” Devidas said.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, on Monday, announced the community survey with a strong force of around 7,000 workers including teachers, anganwadi workers, BLOs and health workers to be assigned the exercise.

On the other hand, the Goa Headmasters’ Association has raised a slew of queries in connection with the ensuing exercise and sought for protective gears for the safety of the field staff.

“What about the safety precautions for the teachers like providing them with masks and other necessities? Will there be training for the same or is it direct information? Sir, many teachers do not have their own transport and hence rely on public transport, so could it be possible to post them for census at the place of residence? Sir, we are every willing to cooperate with you in this ensure (endeavour),” association president Mariano Valadares said in a letter to CM on Tuesday. He also sought a day’s time that is April 8 to provide with details of teachers’ names and addresses to reach the directorate.
