GHRC says no wrong committed in evicting family under Disaster Mgnmt Act

Complainant had prayed that she be allowed to reoccupy the same quarter from where she and her family were evicted due to dilapidated condition

PANJIM: The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) disposed of a complaint filed by one Ravina Kuttan alias Ravina Naik of Kothambi-Pale stating that there was no human rights violation in evicting her from a private housing colony at Bicholim.

Naik had filed her complaint dated August 7, 2020, stating that she along with her parents were living in a quarter in the Chowgule Housing Colony at Pale, Bicholim for the last 21 years and the North Goa Collector issued an order on October 25, 2019, to evict them and other inhabitants from the said quarters. They were re-habilitated at Valshi Government School at Bicholim but complained that they were harassed by the Bicholim police.

The Bicholim Mamlatdar in his reply stated that Naik family and others were rehabilitated since the Surla talathi reported that the quarters/structures occupied by them were in a dilapidated condition and were posing threat to lives of the occupants.
