CANACONA: Residents of Poinguinim residents agitating as part of the ‘Poinguinkarancho Ekvott’ prevented GIDC officials for the second time from carrying out any survey activities at the controversial Kulti Industrial Estate.
After protesting outside the GIDC office at Patto-Panjim and submitting a memorandum to the officials there, residents of Poinguinim protested again on Monday against the ongoing land acquisition at Kulti Plateau.
When officials of the GIDC and survey department reached the plateau to survey the land under acquisition on Monday, many residents gathered and asked the team not to survey the land, but to drop the land acquisition process.
The residents then submitted their objections both verbally and in writing to the officials, who respected their sentiments and went back with a copy of the submission made by the villagers.
In their representation, Poinguinim residents have stated that the villagers have strong objections to the acquisition of the Kulti plateau, and that they have been continuously protesting against the acquisition since Section 4 was notified in December last year.
The residents further alleged that in spite of their objections, GIDC has been going ahead with the acquisition proceedings.
On learning that the GIDC was to visit the site to survey the land under acquisition, the villagers decided to peacefully submit their representations to the officials.
