Panjim: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday announced that the government will provide annual training to the elected representatives, bureaucrats and the Self Help Groups (SHG) with an aim to achieve excellence in administration thereby making it efficient, effective, responsible and people-friendly.
Sawant said that the Goa Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (GIPARD) has been imparting the training in excellence to the elected representatives, including MLAs, panchayat and Zilla panchayat members, councilors and government officials. “But we want to make this an annual training programme for all. This will help in upgrading the skill, knowledge and better administration,” he said.
“Once you get elected or get government jobs, you start feeling that you know everything about administration. But that is not the case. We need to keep ourselves updated and for that training is must,” Sawant added.
The CM was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the new building of GIPARD at Ella Farm, Old Goa. GIPARD was officially launched on May 30, 2014 and the premise was housed in the former GIRDA building at Ella Farm, Old Goa. Sawant informed that during the time of pandemic, GIPARD imparted training to over 3500 employees and SHG members via an online mode.
Sawant has urged the consultant to ensure that the new Institute is disabled-friendly.
The CM added that he intends to see Goa self-sufficient in the year 2021 in the field of agriculture, horticulture, milk, etc. “Not just this, but I want to see Goa self-sufficient in skilled manpower,” he added.
