Girish ready for probe on party funds

PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar on Monday said that he is ready for probe into Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco’s allegations over misappropriation of party funds and suggested that the MLA should head the inquiry committee.

Chodankar told reporters that he has already requested All India Congress Committee (AICC) Goa desk in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao to institute an inquiry into the allegations about party funds as alleged by Lourenco a few days ago. He said that he has also requested Rao to appoint Lourenco to head the inquiry committee and to complete the inquiry in a time-bound manner and submit its report within a period of 15 days.

Stating that Lourenco was making such statement frequently, Chodankar said those in public life should always harp on transparency. He said after he took over as the GPCC chief, he maintained transparency and started the practice of submitting accounts to the AICC every month.

Chodankar said, “Lourenco is a senior Congressman and his allegations should be viewed seriously. I am also taking it seriously. He (Lourenco) has some information about party funds and people should know the truth.”

“Yesterday (Sunday) I called AICC in-charge and told him that Lourenco has some information about misappropriation of party funds and that there should be an inquiry under the MLA so as to know the exact truth. I have urged him to hold an inquiry into these allegations,” he said.
