PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar on Sunday scoffed at rumours that Congress MLA and former chief minister Digambar Kamat has decided to resign and join the BJP.
Such rumours, he said, was a deliberate attempt and a campaign by the BJP and its alliance partners to keep their flock together.
Chodankar also claimed that all the 16 Congress MLAs are united and that at present they do not have the numbers to form a government.
“It is a deliberate attempt. It is a campaign by BJP and its alliance partners. They are using the social media platform to keep their flock together by using Digambar Kamat’s name. It is very evident; it’s just no one message that is circulating but three. It is a game plan by BJP and its gang. I will not even call it a rumour,” Said Chodankar speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a press conference
In the last few days rumours were making rounds that Kamat would join the BJP and take over as the chief minister.
When asked as to why was the Congress not in the position to form the government despite being the single largest party and the situation that is currently prevailing in the State, Chodankar informed that at present they do not have the numbers while saying that all 16 MLAs are united.
Meanwhile, St Cruz Congress MLA Tony Fernandes on Sunday refuted claims that there is a possibility of a split in Congress party with the objective of realignment with BJP by some MLAs.
“I have been elected on Congress ticket and I will not leave my party,” Fernandes asserted.
“The CLP has discussed this issue including non-governance. Congress being the single largest party, right now we do not have the numbers with us to form a government, because some people have cooped together to overturn and defeat the people’s mandate,” he added
