Give another chance to seamen caught with bogus certificates: AAP

Asks DGS serve show-cause notices on institutes that had awarded certificates

MARGAO: Aam Aadmi Party’s seafarers’ cell has demanded that the Director General Shipping (DGS) gives a clean chit to the seafarers of Goa who have replied to the show cause notice on the Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) issue.
Over 3,762 seafarers with bogus certificates, who have been put on notice, are facing death knell of employment. Indian maritime administration has issued notices to 3,762 seafarers who allegedly secured qualification certificates without attending classes.
This is one of the biggest crackdowns yet on a maritime training racket. The DGS has also served show-cause notices on the institutes that had awarded the certificates.
“In view of all this happening which is definitely a positive step to streamline the certification system, the Cell said, “the root cause of this however is that the DGS failed to ensure the compliance of the institutes.”
Keeping the root cause in mind, the seafarers’ cell has demanded that the DGS give an opportunity to all seafarers who have replied to the show-cause or have accepted their fault and give them clean chit and open their e-migrate so they are free to join back.
“Keeping the global and Indian economy in mind 3000-plus seafarers not sending remittance could have a huge effect on the economic situation which would further worsen the conditioin,” said Capt Venzy Viegas, master mariner while speaking for AAP Goa Seafarers Cell.
