Give official language status to Marathi: protagonists

PANJIM: Marathi protagonists under the banner of ‘Marathi Rajya Bhasha Samiti-Goa’ demanded on Thursday that the State government give official language status to Marathi and pass legislation on this during the forthcoming Assembly session.

They said not giving Marathi official language status is injustice to Marathi lovers and has led to the loss of Goan culture.  “We demand that along with Konkani, Marathi be given the same status,” Marathi Rajya Bhasha Samiti president Gora Dhavlikar said.
The samiti has organized a convention at Panjim on January 10,  which will bring together over 10,000 Marathi lovers.
“We have approached almost all legislative members, all party leaders cutting across all parties and they have extended their support to us,” Dhavlikar said.
