MARGAO: A traffic signal installed at the Old Market Circle in Fatorda-Margao around two weeks ago has left motorists annoyed and confused, as it directs traffic to stop and go at the same time. Glowing both red and green, the signal does not serve any purpose, complain road-users. “I assume they installed this second signal for the convenience of motorists waiting at the junction, in case a large vehicle or bus blocks the main traffic signal from view. However, it has done nothing to make our commute more convenient, since it is either fixed or programmed wrongly, as both the red light and the green arrow flash simultaneously,” Peter Rodrigues, who works as a driver in Fatorda. The arrow is supposed to point left, for vehicles proceeding to Margao from Fatorda,” he pointed out, adding that the junction is already congested, with vehicles lining up all the way till Ravindra Bhavan during peak hours. Citizens add that the signal has also been causing disputes on the road, with motorists headed to Colva swerving into the wrong lane and then getting stuck at the red light, obstructing vehicles turning towards Margao.
