PANJIM: The newly-formed Goa Marathi Academy will be inaugurated on May 24 by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and Minister for Official Languages Dilip Parulekar.
Addressing the media the Academy’s managing committee said they will try to give a new and unique direction to the culture of Goa. Goa Marathi Academy president Anil Samant said there will be committees at the taluka level.
“We will be also having study and research centres all over Goa to promote Marathi, various grants will be also given to different groups for activities,” Samant said.
He added that the academy will conduct optional exams for students of Classes I to VII so that the younger generation will learn to write and read Marathi. “If Marathi is protected in Goa than only all other languages will develop and be saved,” Samant said.
The newly-formed committee said that at least 30 percent of the budgetary grants will be spent on programs and this has been noted in the Academy’s constitution. Various workshops in the next two years will be held to promote upcoming artists, writers and singers, he said.
