PANJIM: The State government has directed the Administrator of the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) to shift illegal houses located within the hospital premises as recommended by the ND Agarwal committee in its preliminary inquiry.
The Committee, has been granted a month-long extension to submit its final report on the conditions and functioning of the State run hospital.
Speaking to media persons, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Health Francis D’Souza said he has directed GMC administrator IAS Sachin Shinde to implement the recommendations made in the preliminary report.
“One of the major recommendations was to shift the 13 illegal houses located within the GMC premises. Also to curb leakage and misuse of water supplied to GMC. The administrator has been asked to look into all this” he said.
The report exposes the state of affairs in the hospital including water supply, contractors, and canteen status. The report also dwells on how neighbouring residents use water supplied to GMC.
Agarwal was appointed by the government to scrutinize and act on complaints filed against GMC by various people, including doctors, nurses, staffers, patients and non-government organisations.
