GMC Dean relieved of charge for lapses

Failed to apply for upgrading diploma seats to Masters seats; Inquiry instituted

PANJIM: In a major development, the government has relieved Goa Medical College Dean Dr Pradeep Naik for failing to ensure that the diploma seat were converted to post-graduate seats in the medical college. Medical Superintendent Dr Shivanand Bandekar will hold additional charge of the hospital until further orders.
The outgoing Dean will also face an inquiry into the serious lapse as directed by the State government on Friday. “An inquiry has been ordered against Dr Pradeep Naik, Dean, Goa Medical College & Hospital, Bambolim due to his inaction/lapses in filing application for conversion of diploma seats to PG seats in the GMC which is considered as serious lapse by the Government. Dr Naik is hereby directed to report to the Public Health Department, Secretariat, Porvorim until further orders,” the order signed by Under Secretary (Health) Trupti Manerkar states.
“Dr Shivanand Bandekar, MS of GMC shall hold the charge of Dean, GMC and Director, Institute of Psychiatry & Human Behaviour in addition to his own duties until further orders,” it said.
Last week the government had issued a show cause notice to the Dean for not responding in time to the offer of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare regarding increasing the number of doctoral and masters seats at GMC, the deadline for which was January 25, 2019.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had warned of action against the Dean for the lapse, after several parents of medical students alleged that GMC did not meet the deadline while other states were quick to apply for an upgradation.
