PANJIM: Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has rusticated four medical students for assaulting and purportedly ragging a Goan student in the boys’ hotel.
Goa Medical College and Hospital Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar issued an order rusticating four third-year MBBS students – Aayush Mangal, Nityam Chandra, Rishabh Marmat and Mohammad Uvais – from the boys’ hostel for three months for assaulting another student.
The incident occurred on April 28, 2022 when the victim student was assaulted by the four students in the hostel.
In an order issued on Wednesday, the Dean has told the rusticated students that after hearing “your side and taking into consideration all other aspects of the case the Inquiry Committee has unanimously found you guilty based on circumstantial evidence of assaulting the boy and causing him grievous injuries”.
“On the basis of four-member inquiry committee’s recommendation, therefore you are hereby rusticated with immediate effect for a period of three months from the boys’ hostel,” the order reads.
Further based on the recommendation of the inquiry committee, the GMCH directed the rusticated boys to submit a written undertaking that they will not repeat such incidents in the future.
“You are also directed to note that if you are found within the campus of the boys’ hostel during the period of your rustication, the period of rustication shall be further extended as decided by the competent authority,” it said.
