PANJIM, JULY 14
The apparent tiff between a Goa Medical College student and a senior doctor landed the former in jail, for his mischievous attempt to malign the image of the doctor.
Narayan aka Vasudev Kamat, a post graduate student in physiology was arrested of impersonating himself as Dr Jagdish Kakodkar, GMC associate professor on Orkut, a popular social networking site. He was however bailed out being a bailable offense.
“He created a fake account in the name of Dr Kakodkar and sent friend requests to GMC doctors and students seeking friendship and a suitable match. The doctor filed a complaint in December. During the course of investigation, we traced the IP address in the name of Narayan,” revealed Agassaim police inspector Vishwesh Karpe.
The student was then zeroed in for the cyber crime and booked under section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
Dean Dr V J Jindal, when contacted, washed its hands of the case. “If it is between the doctor and his student, he (Dr Jagdish) has to deal…GMC is not in the picture…Just because they are attached to GMC it does not mean GMC has to take action,” he replied to a question on action against the alleged accused student.
