PANJIM: The Shiv Sena, Goa unit on Monday charged that the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim has lied to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) that no deaths of COVID-19 patients took place between 2 am and 6 am due to lack of oxygen supply in the State-run hospital.

Shiv Sena Goa chief Jitesh Kamat said that he had written a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May regarding the deaths of COVID-19 patients in the GMCH due to lack of oxygen supply between 2 am and 6 am.

Kamat said that he had also attached newspaper cuttings as evidences to prove his accusations and had demanded CBI inquiry regarding oxygen shortage and probe by Enforcement Directorate (ED) in purchase of the ventilators and other medical equipments at inflated rates.

Kamat said that when the PMO enquired with the GMC authorities, the latter told the former that no such deaths had occurred in the hospital.

In the reply to the PMO, the GMC Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar has said, “The information is false as the patients are dying due to severe COVID cases and not during 2 am and 6 am but during the span of 24 hours. The institution is ready for any investigation as deemed necessary by the State government.”
