PANJIM: Aam Admi Party (AAP) has alleged illegal transportation of bauxite by GMR from the Mopa Airport site.
In a letter to Director of Mines, AAP Secretary Pradeep Padgaonkar said, “You are aware that the GMR is constructing a green-field airport at Mopa, which work is presently stopped by the Supreme Court with an interim order to maintain status quo in an appeal regarding the environmental clearance.”
He further says that the Mopa plateau is rich in bauxite reserves as per Mines Department records.
“It is informed by the local residents that there has been massive transportation of extracted material from inside the airport construction area to outside before the work was stopped in mid-January 2019, indicating that GMR has extracted and transported large amount of bauxite illegally. These actions of GMR amount to illegal mining and the bauxite is probably being illegally sold,” he said.
The complaint requests the Director of Mines to immediately investigate the complaint by visiting the site, noting down the amount of bauxite already mined and transported.
