VASCO: Members of Goa Against Coal (GAC) on Saturday said that they would move the Supreme Court if MPT and the government give their approval to the coal enhancement projects and dredging of the navigational channel.
The NGO also invited Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to come and stay at the Khariwado jetty so that he could feel the brunt of coal dust pollution in Vasco.
Addressing the media at Khariwado, GAC member Parshuram Sonurlekar challenged Parrikar to stay at Headland-Sada. “I would bow to the decisions of chief minister, if he proves that there is decline in the coal dust pollution and also would join the Bharatiya Janata Party,” Sonurelkar said.
GAC convenor Custodio D’Souza criticised the statement by Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida for giving a clean chit to the coal handling units and supporting the dredging activities which he termed as an illegal. He said, “The dredging of the navigational channel would also destroy the marine species.” D’Souza also said that Parrikar should have taken Almeida and Mormugao MLA Milind Naik into confidence before making any statement.
