Goa among 12 States for NCERT text books

NEW DELHI, JAN 4
Students in Goa and a dozen States in India altogether will read National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) books in government-run schools from the coming academic year, in place of State text books.
This will bring uniformity in curriculum across the country a step closer, with 31.3 per cent of the senior secondary level students across India studying from books prepared by the NCERT.
The States are Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Kerala and Punjab. This is in keeping with the mandate of the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005. Its objective is to bring uniformity in course curriculum across boards and improve the quality of education.
The move would do away with disparities and give students enough confidence to compete at the national level with ease, said an NCERT official.
Several State boards have carried out a series of changes in their course curricula, in line with the mandate. The changes include bifurcating the course curriculum at the plus-two level and updating syllabus to be on par with CBSE schools.
